My concern about this, is that he is being punished for being a football fan rather than the actual offence. I don't think Judges have much time for football fans.

Poor chap. I can't even believe it went to court the prosecuter must have really laid it on thick.

There was also the story running yesterday about the young student who gave a homeless man a quid in Liverpool, the police arrested him on other drug-related grounds. Unluckily for this particular bunch of corrupted officers this lad was a law student who questioned the validity of the arrest while clicking his phone to audio record. He recorded;
‘I haven’t committed disorder. I’ve been polite. I’ve been respectful.’
Mr Wilson alleged the police officer then said: ‘That’s not how I’ll write it up, pal.’

The arrested guy was detained unlawfully and now has £5,000 from an OUT OF COURT settlement!
The useless officer? Warned not to use 'those words' again

I agree that if he had not been a football fan from the northern outpost of distant Grimsby, and part of a large "tribe", he would not have been charged or found guilty.

Yep set it up I went to matches in the 70's and 80's during the skinhead era more likely to get your head kicked in than hit on the head with a plastic toy shark. Pity it wasn't that giant knob could have been called a proper knobhead lol. That would have got a few chuckles in court. M'lud I now produce the assailant's weapon exhibit 1.

With the amount of worldwide coverage the story is now getting I'd hope for this blokes sake some decent defence team will get involved to appeal this ridiculous decision .

As for the copper claiming she could hear what he was shouting. Generally, I find I can't hear what someone next to me is saying during a goal celebration let alone being able to hear word for word what a particular member of a large crowd is shouting whilst waving an inflatable shark.
