Barnet had a former top class player a few years ago.  It can happen.  We had Birtles, Whymark etc as well.

yeh,it was Edgar Davids and little old Boston had Gazza.

The ending to our season was so flipping mental, if you woke up tomorrow and saw Cesc wandering around BP with a town scarf draped over his shoulders we’d probably just give a casual nod…

I mean as rumours go this one is flipping brilliant…

Can you imagine that conversation?

'Hi Paul, ,my client Cesc Fabregas would love to come and don the Black and White stripes.'

'Well he can do a medical and I'll judge him on that'

More like a drugs test

I’m with Aldi, imagine the scene…
“Well I was was bored and looking for a bit of a football fix and I found this game where one team were 5s from going out of the play offs and they only went and won that game. So I then watched their next game and I’ve never seen anything like it. Their guile and grit astounded me. I couldn’t stop there so I watched the final and again they simply didn’t give up. I fell in love with that team then and I vowed to play for them before I retired” Thanks Cesc now if you could just sign the contract.

Batch, Crombie, Moore K, Wiggington, Cumming, Waters, Bonnyman, Ford, Emson, Drinkell, Whymark. Love you all, You are the reason I'm on here. You've had help from Todd, Handyside, Futcher P, Groves, Mendonca, Macca etc etc etc. Up The Mariners!!!!!!!!!

Would like to see town sign the best of the National Conference, North and South. Impressed with the stats of these....

Zac McEachran - creative centre midfielder (No. 10 like McAtee)
https://www.oxfordcityfc.co.uk/individual-player/10
Oxford city in National League South
Very creative. A lot of assists and 31 goals in 133 appearances.

Nick Haughton - goalscoring centre midfielder.
https://amp.sportsmole.co.uk/people/nick-haughton/
https://amp.sportsmole.co.uk/football/national-league-north/top-goal-scorers.html
AFC Fylde in National League North.
25 goals from centre midfield

Harry Boyes - Left back (ex Solihull)
https://www.sheffieldunited.ne.....for-harry-boyes/?amp
Been given new contract at Sheffield United but would the Blades let him out on loan again but to a league club this time. We saw his quality at Solihull last year.

Charley Kendall - Striker
https://www.weareimps.com/news/2022/january/kendall-signs-for-the-imps
Signed from Eastbourne Borough by Lincoln City but loaned straight back and finished with 24 goals last term.
A quick, clever, on the shoulder striker with a keen eye for goal.
Would Lincoln loan him out again and entrust him to the Mariners.

If we could find an attacking full back on the left hand side like Efete we could play a narrower 4-3-2-1 with 2 Number 10's and attacking full backs for width. Clifton could come to the right of a middle 3 with 2 in behind Taylor or A.n.other striker

McEachran is the brother of the former Chelsea youth star Josh.  Big things were expected of him but it did not quite work out,  too much too soon. His brother at Oxford City has good pedigree then.

Do we know of any other player with a famous brother? 😀😀

Think the jump in quality between Conference north/south and League 2 (especially if we want to be challenging at the top end) is quite notable. Look at Luke Charman - knocking them in left, right & centre at Darlo, sold to Rochdale for a bomb, then scores in only 1 of 19 appearances.

We tried signing three promising players from the lower leagues under Holloway (Jackson Jnr, Gibson and the other guy who's name I cant remember) and that didn't work out did it.

If we were still non league then dipping in to conference north/south would be logical but in our case I’m not sure it’s worth a gamble on too many. Possibly one but as pointed out, players have tried to make that jump and it’s been a bit excrement for them.

I agree with the sentiment and the idea of getting in hungry players rather than journeyman but I suspect we won’t be looking further then the conference…
