I want McAtee to stay for as long as possible but based upon what we’ve seen it’s inevitable.

All I hope is that he makes the right move for us in terms of a fee and for him as a player.

What a fee would look like is hard to say but the priority is to get him to sign an extension that would really change the dynamic of any deal.

Nice little story in yesterday’s NLP about how Coke and Lenny went over to a bar in Manchester owned by McAtee’s uncle and persuaded him to join last summer. That’s what Hurst means when he talks about influence off the pitch. Coke & Lenny might’ve just got us promoted!

People actually think Mcatee is worth 1 million?

Absolutely no way

He wasn't even in the top 10 goal scorers last season

We all know how good he is and a full season without injury I'm sure he'll be amongst the top scorers in league 2, but let's get real hear. A striker not in rhe top 10 for a conference team would be lucky to get 200k, maybe 300k if the potential is clearly there.

Regardless of whether we are now a league 2 team he can only be valued on two things. Performances in the previous season in a lower league, and the value he has to the team he is with.

Grimsby may, and probably do value him much higher than his market value, but realisticly he's a top 15 conference scorer with 1 year left in his contract.

The beat thing we can do now is to give him a 3 year contract and a season to prove himself in the league. Maybe then he will be worth a million
