We aren’t going to get a million for him, and certainly not 2 if he signs a new contract. Better for us if he does extend, but a lot will depend on if he wants to go to a club that might make an offer. 500K more likely I’d say. Maybe less.

I may be wrong but I don’t think anyone has ever paid £1M for a conference level player. Don’t get me wrong - he’s brilliant, and is a great age, but he is unproven at L2 level. I think he’s better than that and could play L1 or championship but just don’t see anyone shelling out that for him at this point.

I am sure the old regime would take three luncheon vouchers and a jar of pickled onions. No offer refused.

But the new owners are not so short sighted.  It will take a substantial offer and even then will only be considered if McAtee himself wants to move.

I believe the days of us being easy pickings are over.

Why certainly not if he signs a new deal? Signs a new deal and his value goes up. I reckon if we'd have stayed down it would have taken 300-400k. I think us going up adds a couple of extra 100k onto that in this window. Isn't he out for the first three months of next season now though? If so that'll see us through this window you'd have thought.

They have. Leicester for Jamie Vardy, though he’s quite clearly a special case (albeit, that was 10 years ago and prices have inflated since then).

Personally, I don’t think we’ll see a tempting bid for McAtee in the summer given that he has to recover from surgery and he might not be fully match fit until October. Given that, I think clubs will want to see how he goes at a level he’s failed to pull trees at previously before sticking in big money bids.

That seems the most pragmatic approach for potential suitor to take. I’d be staggered if we never saw John McAtee in a Town shirt again.

And let’s not forget where that transfer money would go…

McAtee technically aint a conference player anymore.  So yeah plenty of Lg2 players have gone for loads of money ask Exeter.
