By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/05/2018

MICHAEL Jolley has made his first signing, agreeing a one-year-deal with former Chesterfield defender Alex Whitmore. The pair worked together when Michael Jolley when he was in charge of Burnley's Under-23s.

Chesterfield agreed an "undisclosed fee" with Grimsby for the transfer.

Newcastle-born Whitmore is a product of the famous Wallsend Boys Club, where Brian Laws, Tommy Widdrington, Peter Beardsley and Alan Shearer started out. He never made a first team appearance at Burnley, but played at loan while at Turf Moor for Chester, Gateshead, Morecambe and Bury. The 22-year-old joined Chesterfield in January in a 2,5 year deal, which had 2 years left to run before Town stepped in.
